These people are driving on the same public roads I use.
Some years ago I watched a documentary about tailgating andvrear-ending in France. After hitting the car in front, the English driver, asked whether he had been following too close replied "No. He stopped too quickly". God help us.

I had new tyres on my car today and, while waiting, looked up tyre reviews. I found a forum on which the comments made my blood run cold. One after another, people were complaining about how tyres underperformed when they were "taking their cars and their own driving skills to the limit.

Definition of a woman:
It seems to me that the problem with current arguments about gender recognition is that the business of changing from being a man to being a woman is very serious, whereas some proposals for recognizing the change are distinctly unserious. Realistic criteria: problem solved.

Today's the winter solstice, the shortest day, the rebirth. Everything is in front of us now, snowdrops, daffodils, newborn lambs in cold fields, driving home from work in the light, winding down the window on an unexpected balmy evening, and every sunny day a true harbinger of warmer days to come.

Two weeks ago we couldn't imagine Trump winning. Now I'm finding hope from Pam Bondi replacing Matt Gaetz as nominee Attorney General.
I'm on my side.

I'm tired of hearing commentary about "Trump's team". The only thing I can do is wait and see what happens. It's like when I fall over, which isn't so rare, I tuck in and hope I won't break anything because there's nothing else I can do.

But President Johnson forced civil rights legislation through Congress and, for a time, it looked better. We even saw a black president.
This week, on November 6th, we saw the reality. Not the bright beacon of democracy, leader of the free world, but a stinking cess pit of inequality and hatred.

For the first twenty years of my life, America (USA) presented its smart, exciting surface to the world. Cary Grant, Gary Cooper, Bing Crosby, Doris Day, all sparkling on our cinema screens.
Then, we saw the civil rights movement and a glimpse of the dark beneath the gloss veneer.

I have experienced the coming to power of Harold Wilson, Tony Blair and now, Keir Starmer. It always looks turgid to begin with but it's much better than what went before. It can be disappointing too. The Blair/Brown government's didn’t restore social housing, for example.

The Tory Party may get a leader intelligent enough to grow into the role and be effective, or they could get Robert Jenrick.
The Labour Party is paddling a bit but will start to make visible progress now. We always hope for so much from a new Labour government but it's never spectacular.

Today I took a walk along the river Dordogne with my partner. Not too far but walking back took its toll on her. She's 86. She wondered which played the greater part in her unaccustomed fatigue, no longer walking a dog twice a day or her eiightysixness.
She still had the energy to prepare lunch.
