Developer, software architect, tech god, devoted husband to my wonderful wife, proud father of my delightful child and ridiculously fortunate chap all around.
Is that even possible? I’m not an American so I haven’t had ready access to high powered death machines from my local supermarket, but that would seem like a fundamental design flaw in the mount mechanism.

Thank you so much for sharing - this brought back so many powerful memories for me. 45 years later, and still happiest when coding, this hunk of plastic set me on the path to a lifetime of joy. 1k (+16k of unreliability), no addressable storage, and yet we mastered it. Suck it vibe coders!

I thought that apple juice tasted a bit iffy!

Mark Lamarr was a very acerbic comedian and radio DJ. He could be very insulting about people that he didn’t much care for - the joke is only understandable if you say it out loud, ideally with a slight pause after the T in Country, but it may not translate well across the Atlantic.

He was a Big Country member…and we do remember. More of a spoken joke than a written one, but a Mark Lamarr/Never Mind the Buzzcocks classic.

Weirdly, IDE theming. I use different colours, fonts, etc. to differentiate which language I’m working in, which gives my brain enough cues to switch context. I think that the key to this is that I have each language use very distinct syntax highlighting.

Partially for the same reason that Nabokov is divisive – “Hey Nineteen” or “Everyone’s Gone to the Movies” are observation without overt condemnation – and musically you either love the precision and craftsmanship or find it too sterile. Also they were arch, sardonic hipsters before that was cool.

Fiddling with UI: cheap, but users notice that it’s changed immediately - perceived progress

Fixing stuff: expensive, and if you do it right it’s almost imperceptible, just possibly quicker and more reliable - and it can take ages before anyone goes “hey, this hasn’t <done bad thing > in a while”

Congratulations on a tremendous milestone. I’m 21 years in, and it was the best decision that I ever made. Stay strong, and there’s nothing wrong with a bold moustache!

This is one of the loos in Rolf’s Kök (pronounced “shuhk”, meaning kitchen) in Stockholm. This always amused me, but I believe that it’s working a loophole in the rules for the number of toilets required for the restaurants capacity.

Yup, plus a bunch of others for travelling to Africa (DPT, yellow fever, hep-A, tetanus)…no negative effects at all.

Sorry, Betty, and we broadly agree with your assessment (with some exceptions, mainly amongst the poorly educated and xenophobic). To be fair though, we have to put up with constant exposure to your very worst people who have more impact on us than that worthless arse Farage ever will have on you.

That’s voltage (or potential difference, to be really correct)…current is in amps (amperes). Sorry to be so pedantic, but the physicist in me couldn’t just let it be.

You can punch the leccy bill, if you then put it in a 3-ring binder once you’ve paid it and stamped it with your big red PAID stamp with a rotating date indicator…but only if you’re dressed as a 70’s secretary at the time.

I disagree, as I think that Abigail would look tremendous in pre-stabbed clothing!

…and why do I keep hearing “stab the laundry” shouted in Peter Gabriel’s voice?

I have been that cyclist, although my victim was a Peugeot, I was going up a steep hill and looking down at the road; I still felt like a stupid asshole as I picked bits of their rear windscreen (which I paid to replace) out of my forearms.

That’s tidier than my desk is after I’ve tidied it…and then by the end of the week it’s a litter of espresso cups, Diet Coke cans, vape pods and the boxes they come in, even if I’ve regularly taken a load to the bin.
With my eyes on my screens, I don’t notice unless I can’t put something down.

Effectiveness and the size of the input/output bins would be my only concern. If it can take a full load from my tumble dryer or washing lines, and fold it without fault or intervention faster than I can dry the next load, why would I care if each item takes 1 minute or 5 minutes?

Damn! I was about to use the exact same metaphor. Pipped at the post!

Granted that it’s a nice looking, full travel keyboard…but why does it have a Windoze key on a Linux deck?!!! Lever that cap off and replace it with pretty much anything else!!!

Active Sides, surely?
