CEO at Greenpeace Australia Pacific, all views are my own.
Serious political parties have to take real-world issues seriously. Otherwise, what is the actual point in them?

The future of our national flourishing, security and prosperity should not be a partisan political plaything, tossed around by ambitious politicians chasing power and advancement.

All power to the Monash students running this campaign for their huge win — Monash University is ending its partnership with Woodside.

Fossil fuel vested interests have no place in our universities, or any other institutions for the public good.

Greenpeace activists are campaigning inside and outside at Telstra’s AGM this morning, challenging the telecommunications giant for their involvement with the Business Council of Australia, a vested interest group that has lobbied against climate action.

Telstra needs to disconnect from Big Gas.

The only thing the Albanese government's 62-70% target is good for is being left in the dust.

States & territories, businesses, institutions & communities must accelerate the shift away from fossil fuels and slash emissions at the scale & speed needed for a safe future.

With this target Labor has created a diplomatic problem by failing our Pacific neighbours for whom climate change is an existential issue.

@albomp.bsky.social admits serious climate action is the “entry fee” for credibility with the Pacific. How will he justify a target that aligns with >2°C?
September 18, 2025 at 3:28 AM
The Albanese government has created long-term political heat by releasing an inadequate target. It will be burned politically every time the Australian electorate experiences severe climate impacts.
September 18, 2025 at 3:28 AM
By releasing a 2035 emissions target far short of what the best science says is needed to safeguard Australia, the Albanese government has given itself a political & practical problem. There’s only one way out of this mess: 🧵

Just finished reading Marian Wilkinson’s Quarterly Essay, “Woodside vs the Planet”.

One of my key takeaways is that there is a clear statutory pathway through which this beast can be stopped. Environment Minister Murray Watt can reject Woodside’s Browse proposal and Save Scott Reef.

Enough is enough. We need decision-makers to speak plainly about the wrecking role that vested fossil interests play in global negotiations, and to support measures to clean up the process from destructive interests.

In other words, it is the same gang of political and economic interests hindering progress on tackling global warming that is also hindering international efforts to curb plastic pollution.

This should not be allowed to happen; fossil fuel lobbyists can play no constructive role in this context.

Wrapped up an action-packed few days with our amazing @greenpeaceap.bsky.social volunteers in Canberra, who met with dozens of MPs and senators yesterday to lobby for stronger ocean protection.

The signs say it all: Protect the ocean, Save Scott Reef, Stop Woodside.

This month’s ‘With Love,’ marks the 40th anniversary of the bombing of the Rainbow Warrior; and reflects on how, from the depths of grief and anger, was born the unreasonable ambition to take action on an unprecedented scale. Do have a read.

These vessels claim to be targeting swordfish or tuna, but our team witnessed shark after shark being hauled up by these industrial fleets in just half an hour.

The Albanese government’s next decision on whether or not to approve Woodside’s Browse proposal will show Australians the true colours of the government — we urge Minister Watt to stand up for nature and oceans and reject Woodside plans to drill at Scott Reef.

Must-read from @ketanjoshi.co and @smartenergycouncil.bsky.social on the Coalition's proposed list of climate and renewable energy policy cuts.

This is a recipe for worse climate disasters, higher energy bills, and a weaker economy. Only fossil fuel billionaires benefit from a Coalition government.

Great to speak to Jo Chandler as part of her beautiful, brilliant piece in @themonthly.com.au on what motivates people to take peaceful direct action to protect nature and the climate.

There is nowhere in the world like Scott Reef.

Woodside's gas drilling plans risk threatened species like Green Sea Turtles and Pygmy Blue Whales. They also jeopardise fragile coral reef habitats with noise, light pollution, and the potential for oil spills.

A profoundly emotional moment—the welcome ceremony for the Rainbow Warrior III, marking the first time in 40 years that a Greenpeace ship has voyaged to the Marshall Islands. The last time we were here was in 1985, when the people of Rongelap asked Greenpeace for help evacuating their home island.
