a thing that i like to tell my undergrads is to read the novel in voices in your head. your brain can create its own audiobook. the most boring thing imaginable (to me) is that every book sounds like my thoughts.

another general observation not about this show but including it: why does every prestige tv show look the same? same angles, same lighting, same tracking shots, same use of mirrors. we’re lost in a genre

it also makes it harder to evaluate a thing for its own thingness when it’s HEY ITS THE NEW SHOW BY THIS PERSON WORSHIP IT YOU OINKS. Which is quite apropos of the plot of this show

my initial reaction is - Okay. and my bigger reaction is I wish we’d move away from the cult of the showrunner. i know people who have told me this is the best show theyve seen in years mostly because whose name begins the credits…

which is ironic, really

i mean, it’s an incredible play, that is superb for breaking through the formal approach students tend to bring to literature… but discussing double entendre, euphemism… it takes some lexicon gymnastics
