Sigh. I with the majority of Canadians. The ones of no party. We are free to criticize the government when it screws up and free to praise it if it gets it right. Neither my personal bank account nor my sense of self worth are tied to the fate of a party. Carrying water must be tiring…

Well you can sleep easy knowing that the PM agrees with you that appeasing Trump is the best path forward. It is the pragmatic and responsible thing to do. After all it’s not like he is negotiating with a thin skinned authoritarian who signature on an agreement is worthless.

And you’re not scaring me that Canada will collapse into a third world nation without free trade with the US. I know it won’t because I’ve lived in that Canada. What make Canada great is not free trade with the US, it is a citizenry dedicated to decency and the rule of law.

Really? Z’s apology in March resulted in US sanctions in October? Or maybe the two are not linked at all. Trump is a predator. Of women, of institutions, of nations. He thrives on weakness and appeasement. He and Putin have that in common. You think Carney’s apology was smart. I disagree.

The US government is headed by unrepentant liars but it may be true that Zelensky felt compelled to apologize to preserve some hope of continued US assistance. Did it work ? Did Trump support Ukraine? Or after Z apologized did Trump roll out the red carpet for Putin? A lesson to be learned there?

AFAIK Zelenskyy has never apologized to Trump. He has thanked him and Americans for their support. And the thank you were warranted and freely given.

I feel the same way about you. Can’t fathom that someone who portends to understand the danger of appeasement vis a vis Ukraine, would counsel appeasement Canada.

Guessing most of Bluesky is under 40. They can not imagine a world without free trade with the US. But it existed and Canada was fine. Is free trade a good thing? Absolutely. But it must be freely negotiated, not under threat, or then it is not free trade at all.

Values are peace, order and good government. Last 10 years we have not had that. Hoping for something more from Carney hence the disappointment. But I do recognize the majority of the govt ministers are the leftovers from the previous guy.

Sadly when Trudeau called us a post national nation, a collection of interests rather than a principled citizenry, he was speaking a truth which I refused to accept. But maybe I was mistaken.

Trump is a liar. And I was shocked to hear from Carney himself that he apologized. I am dismayed that Canadians are fine with the words of the PM being meaningless.
