Interesting article. What you outline sounds very much like what the country needs; some long term thinking. I hope you are right that it is the government’s intention, that they do not get distracted and that it bears fruit quickly enough to positively influence the next election.

I’m not English, so I don’t care, but Southgate’s record was the best since Alf Ramsey. The criticism was ludicrous.

Very impressive. No one could have doubted her skill or determination but it is so impressive to get this level of endurance so quickly after competing in MTB for so long. Also how can someone 10kg lighter than me produce so much power - deeply jealous man here.

Your absolutely correct the contrast between Sturgeon and Johnson could hardly have been more stark.

I think this is more a measure of how biddable she is. As clear an indication she’s willing to say anything as long as she’s paid handsomely to say it. No integrity, only interested in money.

Trump seems hell bent in making European integration, including UK inevitable. His isolationism is making it imperative for security and a Europe closely linked economically is more likely to stick together when one of there number is threatened. Struggling to see we actually have a choice.

I think you’re right and that has framed Starmer’s public position. I assume that behind the scenes he’s been working with European partners to try and cover off the situation where US withdraws support. That’s what I’d have been doing and I think he’s at least as smart as me.
