Father, husband, advocate for transportation choices. Milwaukeean, urban planner, all around enthusiast.
I had a great time back in my dad’s home country, Guatemala, spending quality time, and meeting with local leaders to talk transportation, public sector/NGO partnerships and more! And I explored Guatemala City on their very impressive bus rapid transit network. What a beautiful country.

It’s officially a “take a screenshot and text it to my family members in Georgia and Guatemala” kind of day.

I love this paragraph. I don’t know how many people I’ve talked to who are either running or are in local elected office, have a lot to say about big national issues but you ask them about transit, parks, streets, housing and you get blank stares. It’s a problem.

Really incredible to see the impromptu shrine to Bob Uecker outside American Family Field.

How did I make it this far in life without knowing there’s a Paper Bag Council?

It looks a little janky but I successfully poached an egg for the first time ever for my fried spam and rice. It mixes so well with the sticky rice. The spam is marinated in soy sauce, oyster sauce, rice vinegar and fried in sesame oil. It’s so good and my kids love it too. 🤌🏻🤌🏻

And finally my #1 book this year was this biography of Pierre Trudeau, Canada’s prime minister from 1968 to 1984.

Written in 2009, before his famous son Justin Trudeau, became PM, this is a thorough and surprisingly gripping account of this transformational leader in Canada’s modern history.

Next up is #2 the Lumumba Plot

The US did some shady stuff during the Cold War to install leaders that were more aligned with US interests.

This is fantastic account of how the US plotted to assassinate Patrice Lumumba, who led Congo to independence and served as its first president.

#3 The Woman in Me by Brittany Spears

I picked up this one for $2 at a book sale and read it over a weekend.

Unlike other “autobiographies” by pop stars, this one is without a doubt written by Brittany herself, in her own voice.

#4 Challenger: a True Story of Disaster and Heroism on the Edge of Space.

A gripping account of the lead up to the disaster that changed the space program forever.

The red flags that were overlooked. Whistleblowers that were ignored.

Ultimately it’s a study in how and why institutions fail.

They need to have a magnet that says “OK” or “barely acceptable” because that’s where we’re at right now

Hey let’s meet up and have a few beverages at the neighborhood pub! It’s right off the freeway and you can even top off your tank on the way out.

I made my way down to my favorite art museum yesterday to see the rare original print of Hokusai’s “Great Wave” and an excellent exhibit on Pan-Africanism, called Project a Black Planet.

Hokusai’s print is one of the few originals known to exist and is on display through Jan 6 2025!

Every city I have visited in the US has a robust array of personal injury lawyers with catchy slogans who advertise heavily.

Here’s one from Philly.

One of the great untold stories over the last half century is the massive growth in how much Americans drive.

When I got my first drivers license in 1994 (yes I am dating myself) US drivers drove *one trillion* fewer miles per year than they do now.
