After 25 years of looking across the #Solway to Burnswark Hill, finally made the short trip to this site of #IronAge forts and #Roman camps. The distinctive flat top is due to the Birrenswark Volcanic basalt in the surrounding Lower Carboniferous strata #geology #DumfriesAndGalloway

A great Cumberland Geological Society/ @cumbriawildlife.bsky.social outing to #EycottHill yesterday. A great turn out dodging the showers to look at 400 million years of history in the northern #LakeDistrict . The 'famous' porphyritic lavas were one of the days highlights! #geology

It was the penultimate Cumbria Invertebrate Group outing of the season on Sunday @rspbengland.bsky.social Geltsdale reserve. Recently forested blanket bog on Denton Fell showing good signs of recovery 20 years after clear felling. Lots of spider samples to identify this week!
