An issue at the core many modern disputes is the Luddite problem. Oligarchs look at workers as legacy costs draining their wealth through tax dollars or social goals like equality. Workers fear being called unneeded and replaced by artificial intelligence or new priorities. All see a dark future.

I’ve always assumed diversity goals are pursued and respected when choosing among candidates who have roughly the same “merit.” I sincerely doubt that many bosses are aware, smart and discerning enough to select the “meritorious” candidate in many cases. Human nature is too full of biases.
