Nice! In terms of raw performance, the EJ200 is almost a drop-in replacement for the F414. The dimensions are close and the EJ200 is lighter & has slightly better fuel economy. That's quite an important consideration for Canadian use.

Potentially, but the SNECMA M88 in the Rafale has substantially lower thrust in afterburner than either the EJ200 or the F414.

I was squarely in their target demographic, having turned 4 a couple of months before. I think CBC picked it up quite soon after it debuted in the US.

Watching the various videos of the crash, I'm not sure I see the jet bank left very far until after impact. There would be some roll to the left due to the loss of the port engine but the wings looked relatively level compared to AA 191 in 1979. 🤷♂️
