Quite honestly, I think they're screwed either way.
If they even attempt to get closer to the EU, Reform and the Tories will rouse the Brexit mob.
And what Labour is currently doing to the sick and disabled is going to lose them a lot of trad voters.

I'm sure they're well aware, but 8 months into this parliament, it would be suicide to raise the issue of Brexit.
