Balmy weather in England, with St. James's Park topping the league at 13:00 with 17.6ºC. Meanwhile on Streatham Hill, SW16, it is 17.1ºC at 90m asl. Light winds, t-shirt weather!

Some intense thundery showers moving NE through West Sussex, Surrey and London just now. Some rain gauges near Cobham recording 100mm/hr rainfall that delivered 25mm in 30 minutes. Kingston upon Thames, also affected. Streatham appears to be in the sights of a band moving NE in the next half hour.

Virga this morning looking like Mare's Tails, but it was below some altocumulus, and not cirrus. Anyway, they looked rather beautiful at sunrise. #clouds @cloudappsoc.bsky.social

Stumbled across this mesmerising small tree at NymansNT today. I believe it is the Japanese alpine cherry (Prunus nipponica). I'm now obsessed with this tidy shrub. Will have to come back in Spring to see the blossom. #prunusnipponica #gardens #autumn

The cup plants (silphium perfoliatum) have been covered in bees and hoverflies this Summer and they’ve coped with drought and the heat. A prairie in our small garden! #smallgarden #londongardens

A good demonstration of the urban heat island effect across inner London this morning. Near tropical night in Central London close to 20°C with a minimum of 15.2°C on Streatham Hill, only six miles South of the River Thames. H/T Wundermap & Weatherobs

Time lapse from 15:10 to 15:40 as first cell arrived with rain core evident to the right and West of Streatham Hill. It’s good cloud porn if nothing else.

Observationally there is unstable air above us now in Streatham with a fine display of altocumulus castellanus. #cloudappreciation

This looks interesting. Some thunderstorms have crossed the Channel and are in the Solent heading NNE ish. My arrows are awful but it does look like London and the Southeast could see some intense downpours later this afternoon. ETA 15:30 ish? H/T netweather.tv
