We remember these events, not to imagine that we can recreate them through pageantry, but to learn the lessons and work toward the freedom and future of humanity in our own context.

Workers from men tending the furnaces of industry, women sewing in the great textile mills, children holding the molds of glass bottles, to skilled tradesmen, cooks, and teachers all saw proof in the real world that Marxism was more than just abstract theory.

The '10 Days that Shook the World', as American journalist Jack Reed called them, reverberated through the consciousness of the oppressed. Countless national patriots of nations colonized Europeans saw the Marxist commitment to ending racial oppression in practice and made Marxism their own.

Even during the necessary restoration of the market economy during the NEP, the workers government held the non-laboring classes in check. No moment thus far in history represented such a birth of new freedoms from so many sources of tyranny.

No more would the nations be oppressed under Russian Chauvinism, workers toil under ruthless capitalists, or peasants beholden to greedy landlords.

An alliance of Bolsheviks, Left-SR's, Anarchists and rank and file workers ended the dual-power situation in the former Russian Empire and established the rule of workers through their councils.
