Yeah, I agree, I came to that thread with an open mind and got to the end feeling it was just one long excuse. At one stage, Signal was small enough that running on AWS wasn't an imperative; this was the time to work with small providers and build with them. Instead, they added to AWS's dominance.

Yeah, I never even considered using C# for anything on ATProto. I just jumped in immediately and learned both ATProto and Rust at the same time!
