I have an external CD/DVD drive for mine (picked it up 10 years ago or more). I also use a USB-C hub to give me access to the old USB-A/B ports, SD cards, HDMI, etc.
The last MBP I had lasted 9 years (wife's lasted 13 years). Just replaced them both with MacBook Airs during the Black Friday sales.
