From a distance, I might have dismissed this as petty vandalism. But upon closer inspection, I noticed it was a pretty solid rendering of the State of Illinois. Maybe paint peeling is going to become a new form of street art in Chicago 😀

The temple has a booth at the farmer's market which sells Sri Lankan cuisine. The monks at Blue Lotus are from Sri Lanka. As Theravada monastics, they don't handle money, so laypeople take care of the business side of the temple. The food is delicious and, conveniently for me, vegan.

Did a bit of sightseeing while visiting my hometown of Peoria, IL. This is the Richard Pryor statue, which you'll find on SW Washington Street downtown. Richard was born in Peoria in 1940 and lived there until his army service and his move to New York City to start his comedy career:
