Hard to find good comparables in his age group, and that may say something. But if you take recent history with Montour and Skjei, 7 years and $7M, each taking them to 37 yrs old that might be the open market. So at a UFA age of 32, a 5 or 6 year contract between $6M-$7M seems to be the suitable.

Not if the refs have anything to say about it...

I think Dobeŝ was inferring the player was hurt and the play should have been whistled down as it was far enough away from the offensive zone

Trying not to overreact, but that group deserved better than that. They worked their butt's off only to have to deal with very poor officiating. Disgraceful.

They've played their heart out...they deserved better than that disgraceful display of officiating...so bad, I have to agree that it borders on being corrupt

I didn't see them "in the mix" from the start and then even more with the Laine injury and the Dach slow start then injury. I wasn't surprised by their struggles, but I still watched every game and cheered them on. An incredible accomplishment for a very deserving group. #gohabsgo

Wow that was a fun read 😆. Seems the panic has set in.

Thanks for bringing the needed perspective as the Demidov madness takes off. Love the commitment to the Pollock award. Always enjoy your take.

Thank you..."For Montreal fans, Garry Galley remains a sore point. Galley has helped more anglos improve their French than the entire OQLF"...I'm still laughing 🤣

That is a great hot take....never crossed my mind...has given me a lot to think about this morning with my cup of joe.

"Mutant toddler"...love it

Grant, always enjoy your take. It's a tough league. I like to measure by effort, and I saw that.

That is my point. To expect two key pieces coming off long absences from the game not to take time to find their game would be misguided. To bank on unproven goaltending and to expect a very young defense to be NHL ready is the same. The potential is there in the line-up but not "in the mix".

Don't get me wrong, we are in good hands. But, looking at the coach is not the right place. Their pre-season "in the mix" was more marketing to me. The line-up requires the majority to play beyond their capabilities to meet that expectation, imo. And has gaping holes as you have noted.

For me, it's the GM that is the rookie. That roster is exactly where it should be in the standings. You're fooling yourself to believe otherwise.

This kid is a gamer. He exhibits all the qualities of a leader. No whining, head down putting in the hard work game in game out. My kind of player and Captain. We are lucky to have him.

That's a tough question. Great answer. Good for him.

I too was completely against a Matheson trade but you've constructed a great argument and helped me deal with any separation anxiety if they do. Of course, for whom they get will be of importance. Regardless, great article.

Ya, appreciate that but I don't buy it. He's played for some of the best coaches and has certainly adopted their best practices. I think in theory it sounds appropriate but I don't know what specifically he lacks or has demonstrated he lacks. Is it tactical? Is it motivational?

I agree with all points except the last one. What void does a veteran coach fill? I've yet to see anyone explicitly outline this.

Get 'er done...

I completely agree. He's still the future. I think his second half of the season will be different.
