Not that incredible if you accept social being determines consciousness, mostly. Small business owners were and are the backbone of fascism.

People change when confronted by contradictions. You can help them change or spit in their eye. Seems to me social media encourages the latter. Oh well.

"Could have been good with decent mentoring"

Couldn't have been more patronising.

As for someone setting up and closing down two YP branches when members disagreed with her. I thought YP was meant to be run by its members not some self appointed dictator.

I beg to differ. Setting aside the achievement of surviving for decades, the fact that, unlike much of Europe, fascists have been consistently beaten back here is largely down to their ability to galvanise opposition over those decades.

That's really not nothing.

Publishing through a limited liability company is a sensible precaution against lawfare. Registering with the Electoral Commission isn't worth the effort for a party that doesn't stand in elections. It's not a wheeze to avoid accountability. Nor is it some deep conspiracy to deceive.

A man whose "principled stand on Palestine" included uncritical support for the Labour Party witch hunt of pro Palestine activists and hobnobbing with Labour Friends of Israel?

His reversion to type is the least surprising side effect of the YP kerfuffle.

It could be about that, but more likely it's a desire to have an atomised membership less able to resist the bureaucrats gathered around the independent group of MPs.

Most placards I see aren't, so I don't know which demonstrations you've been on.

I remember it being a common "joke" well into the 80s, when the (old) RCP were the target. I don't think it was ever a conscious policy of any left group. But if you wanted to get closer to someone you fancied, why not? Student life is still pretty louche so no surprises there.

So you're going with the "staying at home and having a go at the SWP" version of antifascism.

What a waste
August 2, 2025 at 6:56 PM
When there's nobody else doing the organising the choice is between being antifascist or staying home and having a dig at the SWP.
August 2, 2025 at 4:06 PM
It's not about the SWP, it's about stopping fascists. Form an anti-SWP block if you must, but turn up. Because if you don't what is your antifascism worth?

Labour was never a socialist party, rather it was a party with socialists in it. Hopefully, the new party will sweep them up along with most of the splinters.

See the mobilisations at Epping, Wolverhampton and Glasgow today for example.
