She's far too wary for us to catch her and get her baby factory shut down, and besides, she's got three kittens to feed right now.

Purple Striped Jellyfish and a Comb Jelly at Monterey Bay Aquarium Member's Night.

Purple-Striped Jellyfish at Monterey Bay Aquarium. Thanks to the exhibit's lighting, this approximately 20" jelly glows warm white against an indigo background. Looking like an inverted Tiffany lampshade, it has numerous near-black purple stripes running from a ring around the top of the animal's bell to ink-blot-like shapes that resemble long-tailed bats around the rim.

"Leucothea Pulchra" ("Beautiful Sea Goddess") lives up to its name. This gossamer whisp about 5 inches in length features eight parallel rows of tiny cilia that glisten like animated rainbow glitter chasing from top to bottom against the exhibit's deep azure background.

Just two days in, and my mailbox is already stuffed with attempts to prevent California from standing up to Donald Trump's political crimes.

Seriously, though, fuck these pearl-clutchers.

I should have known better. I DO know better, but I asked a chat AI to diagram the family relationship—such as it is, which is basically nothing—of Gavin Newsom and Nancy Pelosi, and the result is … just … What. The. Fuck?

This was its 3rd attempt, and arguably the funniest.

AI-generated image purports to show the (distant) relationship of Gavin Newsom to Nancy Pelosi. The image features photos that may or may not be the named people, but hard to say because the text is gibberish.

The image shows two kind-of family trees (in the shape of the letter H), with "Thomas D IVeroom" topping the one on the left, evidently parent of "Trord Merguen" and "Gotda Merajon", who is shown to be married to a child of the second "tree", labeled "Nancy Putrul" (with a picture that might be Nancy Pelosi at maybe age 15. She is shown as the daughter of "Paud Puitul". There are what appear to be dates under each name. Some are legible ("Trord Merguen" 1950, "Gotda Merajon" 1947), and some are very much not. There are also names without photos, such as a "Nancy Pultul" arranged to suggest that she's the sister of "Nancy Putrul." I'm sorry to put you through this.
