There's not a bone in my body that considers what Fox News does to be journalism (considering they've already had to pay nearly one billion for lying incessantly to their viewers), so I do not see this as a press freedom issue in the slightest.

Make cities “violent” by introducing violence (immigrants is just the excuse to enter cities) then lock them down before midterms.

I get that it’s worst case. But what do we think is gonna happen if Marines are doing law enforcement?
I understand what Kent State did, and Tiananmen Square. I hope that’s enough to prevent live-fire anything.

I feel like there’s a lack of imagination here. Police forces and National Guards may provide a lot of the necessary backstopping, especially if live ammo is being deployed.

I gotta be honest… I’m not sure it’s as anti-authoritarian as it may have been. 77 million people voted for what was clearly authoritarian leanings. The country has become significantly more evangelical (about 25%) which is very deferential to authority. It’s not the whole country of course.

That’s the direction we’re heading. We’re already violently attacking people who protest the sitting government. Arrest isn’t far behind.

Maybe you're right. But iron-fisted oppression on a large scale exists in China (larger land mass, much larger population), I don't know why we would think it can't exist here.

It's not "every city" - it's LA, NYC, DC, SF (maybe), and if resources allow, secondary cities like Philly and Boston. But half of this is performative. They want to put on a show for their voters. Televised oppression in a few large cities that have always drawn MAGA ire is enough.

You mentioned in a follow-up “institutional constraints, questionable internal support and loyalty, and the decision-making of ordinary people within and outside the government” - I expected to see more of that before sending Marines into LA. I am just looking for any signs of slowing.
