Learning art later in life.

Occasional posts to create a digital track of progress.

Mostly a place to like and repost art for inspiration.
picked up an xp pen drawing tablet to try out working in digital. I don't know why but it feels more easier / more intuitive to do.

Sometimes organic form can just click and I am able to somewhat show what I wanted in 3D space. But roots and rocks are about the only things I'm really able to do.

The past month and a half have been hard. Isolation and self doubt being the most prevalent but Im slowly pushing through.

I also now understand why people say use the biggest brush you can get away with. Using an extra fine nib for this was slightly torture.

Another sketch session with the graphgear 500. I like it, but I think I still prefer a kura toga. Maybe because I don't have to worry about rotating the lead?

Finally got more than an hour to myself tonight. Feels good to come back to art but still hard to push through the doubt.

Picked up a refillable felt tip today. It is way heavier than expected and definitely something I'm not used to since ink still flows really easily out of it.

Work has finally calmed down enough that I can finish this piece and just get it out of the way. I enjoy using watercolor and the g-nib I just don't know what I'm doing but an experiment is an experiment.

Martin Lachmair's work keeps appearing in my feed and I decided to give it a shot.

It's also my first foray into watercolor!

Sadly the ink cartridge on the pilot kakuno is not waterproof.

Feels good to finally finish something when I've been exhausted for the past 3 weeks.

Chipped away more at this last night. I feel learning a dip pen without the need to actually dip it has been an easier experience overall. Hopefully ill finish lining everything this weekend

New custom feed for my TWSBI 580 finally came in. Feels weird getting to use a g nib on a fountain pen but it's a lot of fun!

Bought a lining pen on a whim. It's a simple yet fun tool. I've been slowly chipping away at this page for a week now while I wait for my g pen nib converter on my fountain pen. I'm not making a lot of progress but it's been a nice change of pace from looking at a blank page!

90% of my 50% work looks like this. Starting something then ending in frustration at my abilities... But you gotta suck at something before being good at something. I just need to find a way to push through and actually finish pieces to learn.

Finally sitting down to do 50% work while testing out a new ink in my fountain pen (colorverse selectron)

It's better than what I expected to do for the first real time of sketching a head, but a lot of things to fix.
