To complicate matters further, many of these low-income areas are classified as food deserts (shaded purple), meaning residents live more than 1+ mile from the nearest grocery store. Within these recovery residences, many lack access to transportation, making it even more difficult to obtain food.

In Marion County, Indiana a significant portion of recovery residences are situated in low-income ZIP Codes (shaded blue), often because housing is more affordable in these areas. Unfortunately, this isolates residents, many of whom live below FPL, in neighborhoods lacking vital resources.

Today is my 10 year anniversary of entering the rooms of recovery - when I began working a program (my preferred program).

When I first started this journey, I was defeated - an expert on self-pity.

Back then, I never imagined I'd be who I am today - and where I am.

I am immensely grateful.

School and work have been keeping me busy - but this doesn't stop me from snazzing up the home whenever I can.

Snagged some nice red chairs from a nonprofit moving spaces, and spent the earlier part of the day installing solar lights!

Grateful for all of it!

Beyond grateful to be fully set up in my new home. Still sounds so weird, calling it "my home."

But that's what it is! And I owe this reality to recovery.

Today, my life looks nothing like I imagined it would when I was drinking and using. It's a million times more amazing.

It's hard to believe this home will be mine in a little under a month.

Never thought I'd call myself a homeowner. Nothing I did got me to this point. I give credit to recovery; without it, I'd be dead.

Also! Navigating the closing process is like learning a new language!

The Indy Mini might be over... but I'm still turning miles into meals!

Phew! First mini-marathon in the books! I'm immensely grateful to have participated in the Indy Mini.

Running with 20,000+ others while bands play music at every corner and people cheer you on every mile of the way is an AMAZING experience!
