While I have completed In Other Waters and appreciated the story line and mechanics involved... any recommendation I give comes with the caution that it is very monochromatic and yellow, especially at shallow depths.

Similarly... Large aquatic animals just need more care and fluid space than kids can provide. They may be safer than bootleg toys that claim to be age appropriate, though.

Yeah. Coupeville could have some recent historical drama or something set in it, at least. "We have this fort built to protect Puget Sound, but it's already obsolete with the advances of air power and submarines" could work as a plot hook.
