this is the kind of shit that pisses me off about AI hate on the internet bc AI as a concept has existed forever even before gen AI became a big thing. video game enemies are AI. recommendation engines on sites like uber eats are AI. roombas and xbox kinect and email spam filters and old siri/alexa
I actually had to explain to someone recently that the AI that tells enemies in video games how to react to player inputs is NOT genAI and has existed for literal decades. they genuinely had no idea there was a difference. this shit has poisoned the well so bad.
I hate AI, but I think we should think more critically about blanket-condemning anything that could be ai. Big genAI, which steals copyrighted works, poisons our collective knowledge, and consumes unconscionable amounts of energy is BAD. On-device ai that lets me search my photos for dogs is FINE.

not sure how i ended up here but randomly ended up getting into critical role recently and it's making me want to replay bg3 so bad. i also have a newfound respect for matt mercer bc that man's skills as a DM are inhuman how tf does he do that
