Cyrus seems especially at peace with both her past and who she is now. After years of the world struggling to catch up to her, it seems the culture is finally giving her credit for leaving such a lasting impression.

Cyrus has already lived multiple lives in her nearly-two-decade career — from tween idol to pop rabble-rouser to rock star and everything else in between – but now, the label that suits Miley best at age 31 is simply seasoned professional.

Her Best of Both Worlds Tour grossed over $54 million. She scored multiple hits as Hannah, including “Best of Both Worlds” and “Nobody’s Perfect,” before achieving success as Miley with tracks like “See You Again” and “7 Things,” gaining respect beyond her Disney roots.

Cyrus was essentially holding down two music careers at once, signing with Walt Disney Records for all things Hannah and then with Hollywood Records for her own work as Miley. Her first two albums, Hannah Montana and Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus both debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

It’s not uncommon for songwriting credits to be added after a song's initial release, as seen with “Good 4 U” in 2021, often following negotiations between the parties involved. However, if Mars and his co-writers are not credited, Cyrus is unlikely to have any legal obligation to give them.

Does this mean there’s no chance of Mars and his co-writers being added as co-writers to the “Flowers” credits? Not necessarily. While Cyrus may be legally protected from the “Your Man” writers, she might choose to include them out of goodwill and to avoid further conflicts.

When Miley sings “I can buy myself flowers,” she does so with her own melody and cadence, distinct from Mars’s “I should’ve bought you flowers.” Simply using some of the same words as an older song does not constitute copyright infringement.

The two songs share some sonic similarities that could raise copyright concerns, but there are no direct samples, clear interpolations, or significant overlaps in melodies, rhythms, or production textures.
