To me this is the right opinion. This FDE roles seems incredibly niche and hyper specific to unique situations. I can’t imagine asking one of my staff engineers to do this..

Interesting as I had the same calculus and math classes as all the other engineering disciplines at college so I’m not sure where it’s different. In fact we took for than the MechE and EE majors since CompSci required us to take discrete mathematics.

I don’t find her opinion to be valid though since we were an official PE discipline in NCEES for a long time before it was pulled (mostly because not a lot of SWEs needed a PE certificate). It’s a recognized discipline at most of the US engineering universities like GT, CalTech, MIT, etc
