I don't think it was a case of jury nullification. I think it was a case of failing to prove there was action with intent to harm beyond a reasonable doubt. I think if they wanted to charge him with disorderly conduct, they might have had a case, but that wasn't what this was.

The problem for them is that elections are run by the states, so it would be harder to simply take them over.

Yes, although it only was a few states. Those of us who didn't vote today haven't felt that satisfaction yet and should still have a strong urge for next year's campaign efforts.
