Topping off my 18th gallon today.

If you are someone who is a little squeamish about giving blood, know that after today’s donation, I will also be grossed out from giving blood.

I gave a talk about ROT13 last week, and used this post as an example of how to use it to hide spoilers. I was amused that Bluesky offered to "translate" the post, which led to "detected language" = Breton, and exactly one word—"raqvat"—being translated to "socks."

So what I'm hearing is that you are in the market for more foster kittens ...

This past week, the NCAA convention returned to Nashville. On Wednesday night, I attended the NCAA Woman of the Year celebration, and at the end of the ceremony, they played ... Rachel Platten's "Fight Song."

... after 6 weeks, the scores of the Sesame Street group improved to such a degree that they overtook the control group in most topics, and greatly reduced the gap in the rest.

I loved these quotes from the opening page—far apart in time, but so close together in spirit. Both sentiments hold up quite well, whether 50 years later or 2400 years later. (Note to self: I should put a copy of these quotes on my office door, so I can see them more regularly.)

With the 55th anniversary of Sesame Street coming up in November, I was reminded of the book _Children and Television: Lessons from Sesame Street_ (published in 1974), which I purchased on a whim from a thrift store 10 to 15 years ago, for the grand sum of 25 cents.
