28/Wisconsin 10th District State Representative🇺🇸 / Environmentalist 🌲/Liberate WI✊🏾/Democratic Socialist🌹 / Abolitionist ⛓️‍💥
This week, with Citizen Action of Wisconsin, Representative Francesca Hong, and many others, we released a bill creating a 2% income cap on utility bills for the people of WI who need it most.

Here are my remarks from Tuesday’s energetic rally at the People’s House (the Wisconsin State Capitol!)

The 2% Rate Cap Bill that Rep. Francesca Hong and I just introduced will cap monthly utility payments at 2% of income — for every household in Wisconsin. Period.

As it is phased in, this becomes a universal, automatic protection. No hoops. No humiliation. No one having to beg for relief. (1/2)

We are so excited to propose a 2% cap on utility bills for households in Wisconsin who need it most. This directly confronts the affordability crisis in Wisconsin, providing direct relief for those struggling with spiraling energy costs.

If you are in a position to help, consider organizing a food drive in your neighborhood or volunteering at a pantry.

And if you want to fight for true food sovereignty, consider attending the the African American Roundtable's food access convening on 11/20 from 6-8pm:

Trump promised he would reduce the burden of food insecurity faced by communities across the country.

But ten months in, our communities are facing a deeper food apartheid: a sudden lack healthcare access, and a federal governmental shut down due to his Administration's cruel indifference. (1/6)

We followed that up by knocking doors and talking to folks just around the corner from Parkway Elementary School in Glendale.

And at Nicolet, we found our Communications Director Tim Schaefer's 2001 yearbook photo, and are now publishing it against their will! (Jk jk, they don’t mind.)

Today, we met with superintendents and board members from the Nicolet Union, Glendale-River Hills, Maple Dale-Indian Hill, and Fox Point-Bayside school districts to talk about protecting and strengthening public education for *every* student.

It’s an ongoing, difficult, open conversation.

Today we made very clear the urgent, scientifically certain need to shift our energy production to clean, renewable sources as quickly as possible. We cannot wait for federal action, and we can't wait for the utilities to voluntarily quicken the pace.

The Wisconsin Legislative Black Caucus is launching a statewide listening tour to build a Black policy agenda. This statewide tour will center Black voices in the legislative process so that we can build an agenda that bridges the gap between *all* corners of Wisconsin.

ICE does not keep us safe, and they are not welcome wherever we value humanity over hate.

I’m proud to support these principled, reasonable protections for our communities.

Natural spaces are not optional: they are integral to our community's well-being, to maintaining our connection to nature, and to building a truly ecology-minded future.

Let's get this done -- we need Knowles-Nelson to ensure future generations enjoy the natural spaces we love today.
