Sunday morning listening: Antone's: Bringing You the Best in Blues. A very cool compilation with everyone from Buddy Guy to Lou Ann Barton to Otis Rush (performing ‘Double Trouble’ the song SRV named his band after…). Wicked good record.

Saturday morning listening: Butterfield. There is a remarkable Paul Butterfield documentary you can watch for free on TubiTV. I watched it this week & immediately ordered this outstanding (& cheap) set of the first five records. Imperative blues.

Saturday morning listening: Elton & Leon! I heard two versions of A Song For You yesterday and was reminded of Leon’s genius. This is a record that I have to listen to frequently to keep all things good.

Sunday morning listening: BB King. Live In Cook County Jail. An absolutely stunning record from 71. The prisoners applause then loud booing for the warden in the introduction still makes me laugh. Essential listening.

November 22, 2025 at 12:39 PM

November 16, 2025 at 12:22 PM
Saturday morning listening: Jason Isbell. I heard Jason on the Norah Jones podcast this week (great concept-poorly produced) and was reminded I should listen to this again. A truly great record.

Tuesday morning listening: Sonny Terry… again. I might be in a mood. Technically half this record is Sonny & Brownie, the other half is Sonny & Lightnin' Hopkins. Not too shabby.

Monday morning listening: Brownie McGhee… again. Apparently I’m in a mood. I had this cassette a hundred years ago and wore it out. So great.
November 10, 2025 at 12:42 PM
Sunday morning listening: Sonny Terry! Yesterday’s Brownie led me this gem. Sonny AND Johnny Winter AND Willie Dixon? It’s as good as you can imagine.
November 9, 2025 at 12:56 PM
Saturday morning listening: Brownie McGhee! Easily a top 10/desert island disc for me. I learned so much listening to this work of genius. Imperative.

Sunday morning listening: Passenger. Easily a desert island disc for me. (Please don’t ever ask me to make that actual list…)
November 2, 2025 at 11:51 AM
Saturday morning listening: Blues Traveler. Travelers and Thieves is their second studio album, released in 91. This one is (I’m told) an extremely limited two-CD pressing - only 10,000 made. The bonus EP features live tracks, one with Carlos Santana. Superb.

Sunday morning listening: John Prine! Nothing warms up a frosty morning like John.
October 26, 2025 at 11:45 AM
