Sanding back floor, hated the varnished (i put it down 🤦) two days in and this is the best I can get it, I like a weathered look but this is a little bit much! Any ideas on how to soften/finish?

Anyone have any good ideas on how I can finish this wooden floor? I can't get the varnish fully off and don't mind the weathered look but I'd like to soften the dark areas, thinking a white wash or at the other end oiling with a darkish oil!
