I am really bad at going to and having fun at Disneyland. Should be a no-brainer. Not for this guy.

(The other "one-and-done" category for the 1st Awards only was "Best Title Writing". This went to Joseph Farnham for no particular film, just his overall work (maybe reputation?). George Marion Jr was nominated as was Gerald Duffy, the latter for The Private Life of Helen of Troy, a lost film.)

Finally, it won Best Unique and Artistic Picture, the Best Picture counterpart of Outstanding Production (which went to Wings). The Crowd and Chang were also nommed for this one-and-done category. This was the only year for two Best Picture awards and the Academy treats Wings as the official winner.

Rochus Gliese was nominated for Best Art Direction but lost to William Cameron Menzies's body of work (Tempest and The Dove, the latter a lost film). Charles Rosher and Karl Struss won for Best Cinematography for their work here. They were up against George Barnes for his body of work that year.

As mentioned earlier, Janet Gaynor won Best Actress for her year's worth of work, which included 7th Heaven, Street Angel, and this film. Seems a little unfair that the other two nominees only had one film each to judge, Louise Dresser for A Ship Comes In and Gloria Swanson for Sadie Thompson.

Next up is Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927 dir. F.W. Murnau). Streaming on a bunch of freebies, but you can avoid the ads if you watch it on Hoopla with a library card.

Additionally, happy to report that Tubi uses the movietone sound, and not whatever random crap they decided to cobble up. Which is good, because the tune they whistle to each other is kind of important to the plot.

I am not great at it yet (it has a pretty steep learning curve), but I definitely self-taught much of the stuff through sandbox. It's kinda like having the patience to paint and glue together plastic models. If you take enough time you can make some really cool shit.

this is mamdani's big chance to suggest to trump that universal healthcare is anti-communist and would get huge ratings.
