Tonight’s movie is “The War Game,” by the recently departed Peter Watkins. Watkins was something of a folk hero among independent filmmakers. Despite being banned by the BBC (it didn’t air until 1985), the film won a Best Documentary Oscar. We’re watching the Blu-ray from my personal collection.

A couple of weeks ago @lamarsbar.bsky.social saw a podcast interview with Malcolm McDowell in which he said the 2023 restoration of “Caligula” by Tinto Brass was actually the movie he thought he’d starred in, so we’re watching that “Ultimate Cut” tonight. Rented on Blu-ray from Videotheque.
