I chose to grey out most of the page because it was a flashback. Except the part that was both most traumatic, and avoided by Peter, the one he identifies with, the lens he sees his life through, but refuses to process so it doesn't drive him unconsciously.

text: i put all of the text (or most of it) outside the panels to show that they are memories, and not something he has identified with. The text inside the 2nd to last panel is because he identifies with what happened there.

my design goals: this was a flashback, and the main reason for Peter being Spiderman. with that in mind, here are the reasons I did what i did, whether or not they were successful:
