We’ve been told that deals with options can’t be used as comps since they’re not one-year deals.

The way it has been explained to me, by adding an option, it's not treated as a one-year deal anymore.

Most teams have a file-and-trial policy where they don't negotiate one-year deals after the filing deadline but they will tack on options since those won't be considered one-year comps.

I doubt it. We’re probably going to predict him for roughly that salary over four years.

If they expect him to miss all of 2026, it would make sense to release him when they need a roster spot, yeah.
