Leaving aside the egregious comparison to Larry Kramer, RFK's ideas about COVID were treated as false because they were false!

He has spent his entire adult life promoting ideas that are wrong and have literally gotten children killed. How *should* we treat a figure like this?

If people believe they will materially benefit from the removal of a marginalised group's rights, they will often support it. They don't need to be ideologically commited to hatred of those groups. You don't need brainwashing. Apathy and self-interest is enough.

Thinking about Nazi Germany for example. Was the population of Germany broadly antisemitic? Of course. Were Jewish people being systemically demonised? Of course.

But shopkeepers didn't just support pogroms because they hated Jews - but also because it put their Jewish competitors out of business.
