Because the Trump machine has perfected the idea of the firehose of outrage and corruption. There are 3 or 4 "bronco chase" level events every day. The media just can't keep up and the public's attention is quickly overwhelmed. Our only hope is to get one of the chambers of Congress back next year.

I think Pence is still clinging to the hope that in the 2030s, after the Trump stench has started to fade a bit, that he may emerge as a candidate and leader in the GOP. That hope died with T's reelection. The "classic" GOP is no more.

The article compares McConnell's presumed principled stand on Hegseth to John McCain's stand on various issues, including health care. The problem with this comparison is that McConnell doesn't have a shred of decency or ethics. McCain had a boatload.
