There's research that shows when you buy local, even if it costs more for you in the short term, the benefit for your community is far far exceeded.

The jobs from insisting domestic manufacturing for EVs and green energy that Biden put in place were some of his best policy decisions.

It's also exhausting to be on the other side of it. You have a few bad options, ignore it, stoop to their level, or waste a bunch of time trying to write up something useful that touches on the nuance of the situation.

Yeah the amount of rage bait that keeps leaking into conversations and the amount of people that refuse to acknowledge they're wrong or have a serious thoughtful discussion is very difficult.

The known suppression bias of content based on that study is shocking (vs a normal 2-3:1 ratio with Instagram):

37:1 ratio of Tibet content
181:1 ratio of Hong Kong protest content
81:1 Tiananmen Square content
21:1 South china sea content
15:1 Taiwan content
9:1 Ukraine content

Yes, the ban was 100% the right thing to do (in my belief). I wish the NSA would just declassify whatever they have, it's likely even more damning.

more than likely they already were feeding propaganda to prop up Trump. See the numbers coming out about youth Trump support and studies like this one prior to Tiktok locking things down to make it harder to study networkcontagion.us/wp-content/u...

If you're familiar with the laws then you're deaf to the point.

Of course you can't block encryption it's just math. However, you can block encryption for the majority under the guise that it "makes them safer."

The point being made here is ... it CLEARLY doesn't make the majority safer.

Ahh that's alright; it probably would've made no difference haha

I had not seen anyone doing this... now I wish to go back 😆

I think we need to find ways to ... work together rather than just all shouting about the things we care the most about to "draw attention to it."

I think "cooperative activism" or "targeted activism" is likely to be more effective. Like, the left in general seems to be failing to meet people where they're at, solve their problems, and then convince those folks that they should help others solve problems as well.

There's definitely still something to be said for actually hearing those minority voices. However, it seems like we mostly hear indirectly from those folks anyways ... actually trying to discern the broader opinions of a minority beyond particular individuals is also really tricky.

Honestly, I don't think "social media activism" of any form is really is helping. People are reachable in person but online ... it's just more noise demanding attention. So mostly only people that already have strong opinions jump in.
November 16, 2024 at 11:55 AM
I think on some level most people care ... but people care about a lot of things, and the world keeps asking that they care about more.

The average person is bombarded by digital ads, paper ads, billboards, social media ads, social media activists, news letters, protests, etc

Should've been internally* not interesting. Oops!

Yeah dictionaries are hash maps under the hood which are interesting more memory intensive than a list.

Maps are basically arrays (lists) that have a larger number of elements than what's stored. This counters the cost of moving lots of stuff around every time an element is added.

There's just been too much obstructionism instead of governance in recent decades... Paul Ryan being no small part of that.
November 4, 2024 at 3:11 AM
I want to go back further to the pre-Regan party personally. The Republican party used to be a great party for liberty and the environment that actually effectively solved problems.

Pantheon looks really cool but is very tied to ElementaryOS... There aren't a lot of distros that ship it.

Elementary is pretty neat as a distro but the lack of an ability to upgrade without reinstalling kinda killed it for me. Also it's similarly behind with Wayland stuff.
