Writer, science-y person, dad, caregiver, wants to be an artist when he grows up.
SFF & moody existential horror. Dada, deco, noir, philosophy. Yunnan tea & long walks on the beach.
Monsters, John, monsters from the Id.

A 'mag well' is apparently a flared base attached to the bottom of the grip, which makes reloading faster and easier under high-stress conditions (like when Black Widow has to go up against the Winter Soldier or, y'know, antifa).

Here's the angle that inspired me to think of that spectacular Martian formation on the right as 'Kong Ridge'.

(Lined up like this, it resembles a small roaring Kong-head statue that the steamship crew in Peter Jackson's remake encounter among the rocks offshore, as they approach Skull Island.)

Well, we had a pretty good run.

I wonder if the spiders have seen Phase IV.

Is that the fancy-ish one google thinks it is?—not what I first picture when I read 'residential hotel'!

It def sounds like a nice place to watch a front move in, though.

People talk about tardigrades, which are fantastic, but rotifers ("wheel animalcules") also rule.

Killer Noirvember/Christmas crossover list—

Eyes Wide Shut,
Night of the Hunter,
The Thin Man,

The Silent Partner 1978
(Any movie with Christopher Plummer playing the villain is a must see. Also Susannah York, John Candy, & some guy named Elliott Gould.)

Appreciating the late Thomas Disch, versatile writer of dystopian science fiction, existential nightmares, poetry, and The Brave Little Toaster—among other things.

And then there's...I Drink Your Blood.

(They're going to flag this pic, but it's just an entertainingly-bad severed hand.)

I actually recommend the film! Lolol. It's got scattered moments of really good filmmaking amidst the shlock, and that weird 70s intensity.

The Sovereign of Halloween is dropping by to tell you that you're enough, and that even if you don't think you are.

Dan O'Bannon, of Alien fame, did a more faithful & gooey version in 1991, called The Resurrected.

Studio buried it & the script does have issues, but Chris Sarandon has a grand time chewing scenery as the evil Curwen. And the flashback/catacombs scenes are fantastic.

Obscure but worth looking up.

Back then only a few would get excited to hear "from a story by HP Lovecraft", so they shoehorned it into their Poe series.

It's a loose adaptation of The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, a great HPL yarn (& one ripe for a prestige/revisionist adaptation). Curwen is a crackerjack evil villain.

Late to the party but,

The '78 Invasion of the Body Snatchers is just superb. ('56 is also great.)

The Endless—perfect think-y/scary cosmic horror.

A Dark Song—the best occult movie ever made? Slow burn fires on all cylinders.

MADS—the French hallucinogenic zombie flick - is great/immersive.

etc for the audition & Leone goes NO! I want everyone in the theater to say Holy Shit That's Henry Fonda!

All have epic Morricone scores. OUATITW is one of my favorite films.

I love Veronica Cartwright's performance more and more as I rewatch this favorite . Intense, comic, heartbreaking; she's just superb.

No matter how you slice it, the universe is EXTREMELY strange.

Still ~ a string theory skeptic, but I suppose I do believe in dark matter, even though it makes my tummy hurt sometimes.
