That last part trips my quartzcasting detector, but on reflection it's at least plausible - you have to be pretty deep in the weeds to be on board with BDS, and they can be pretty annoying to anyone who isn't that deep in the weeds.

Credit where it's due: orthonormalist appears to have beaten James to this by about an hour. No reason to think the discoveries weren't independent, just noting for the record.
