Almost 2026, I finally wrote down my top 5 favourite reads of 2025.

Writing it made me want to re-read some of these books again.
My favourite reads of 2025
Started strong the beginning of the year, but I slowed down considerably in November and December. I have been sitting on a half read 'The Impossible Fortune' (The Thursday Murder Club book #5) for over a month. I read the other 4 books in days. I did read some great books again his year, my most favourite non-fiction one, a Dutch one, by Lieke Marsman, 'Op Een Andere Planeet Kunnen Ze Me Redden'.

My little ode to Andrea Gibsons and their documentary.

Come See Me In The Good Light
Social media gets a lot of bad rep, most of it deserved. For me, social media, specifically Instagram, is a way to meet people and find connection and meaning. Being late deaf has isolated me a lot from society, but thanks to Instagram I can keep in touch with people I meet in real life, while out and about. I also have connected with strangers over shared interests.

Wat een slecht titel zeg @ad.nl

Er is geen enkel reden om Sifan Hassan te benoemen hier.

From Apple to Seiko

From Apple to Seiko
Three years ago, I bought my first smartwatch after convincing myself it would make life easier. I wrote two posts about the Apple Watch and how it helps me with deaf accessibility. Before getting an Apple Watch, I wore an analogue or digital watch since I was 10-years old. I can't leave the house without wearing a watch. Since early this year, I started wearing the Apple Watch less and less.

This morning I read @craigmod.com latest Ridgeline newsletter about his article for the Uniqlo LifeWear Magazine.

I dropped by to get a copy and must say, I never noticed their free magazine all the times I went there.

In any case, I'm going back when it's less busy to buy a jumper I saw.

Oh well. I am making my claim and every author should.
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

The New Yorker review of Elizabeth Gilbert's latest memoir by Jia Tolentino, as wacky at as it is, will sell the book like hot bread.

Also, I had no idea Gilbert is this wacky.

Inspired by that one Japan photography vlog, I dug out my Yashica T5, Canon Prima Mini and an Olympus Trip 35 and a couple of now expired film rolls.
The Summer of Film Photography
Thanks to a random YouTube street photographer vlogger whom I happened upon just as they started vlogging, I picked up analogue photography again. He was on a trip to Japan and went to one of those tiny second-hand camera shops where he purchased a Yashica T5. He then proceeded to take most of his Tokyo photos with the Yashica with Portra 400 film instead of with his Leica Q2 Monochrom.

I learned many things in my 44 years around the sun, about myself and life in general. I'm listing them here for myself in no particular order.
Another trip around the sun
Every birthday I get to celebrate is kind of a big deal to me considering I have a rare chronic illness consisting among other of a transplant kidney. To still be healthy enough to work, albeit part time, to travel and just to be able to walk to the grocery store. Never underestimate the privilege of being able to walk to the grocery store, buy food and carry it back home.

Yes. I am right. I am seeing how Chat GPT is ruining students critical thinking and writing skills in real time. It is not the future. It is a tool designed to render the populace helpless, to make people doubt their innate intelligence, and to foster overreliance on technology.
@roxanegay.bsky.social maybe you’re right.

CSS Day congress, a short look back

This year, I was able to attend CSS Day 2025 again. A yearly two-day congress with 14 talks related to CSS and the web. I missed the past two years due to reasons. But this year, the organization managed to arrange live captions, so it was a no-brainer for me to…

I read Atmosphere yesterday in one sitting. The story timeline had me in it's clutches. Every plot line in story hit me deep. I also liked that Reid did her NASA and space shuttle research. Enough info to be interesting and yet not so much that it becomes a drag.

#cssday peeps, I spotted a couple of people wearing a CSS pin. I would love to have one or two.

I was musing this morning about that it is thanks to picking up CSS 23 years ago as a college kid, that I am where I am today.

Would like to show my css love on my backpack and jacket 😀
