#Orwell lived at 77 Parliament Hill during the mid-1930s with a path onto Hampstead Heath ten metres from his front door.

Sadly, Booklovers Corner, the Hampstead bookshop where #Orwell worked in the 1930s is long gone. BTW I have never noticed the nearby plaque - just metres away - mentioning John Wyndham and ‘Triffid Alley’ until today.

Marian Wilkinson essay is an important one. There is no chance the two major parties will make impartial, evidence-based decisions to protect the environment. This shows you why in horrible detail. Make your vote count next election.

Explored Herman Hesse’s birthplace Calw, nestled in the Black Forest with friends. The river is a feature, the village has a stillness. Hesse always spoke fondly of his childhood experiences here. Sadly, his home - which is now a museum - is being renovated but there was still lots to see!

In Austria. Today was one of those golden days where a hunch is proven correct & the most indistinct trail of breadcrumbs has led to the hard evidence I suspected would exist. I found #Charoux’ diary for 1941-1950. There are multiple entries about #Orwell dining at the sculptor’s home; more anon.

“Compared to similar countries, Australia is significantly behind on how much it spends on science. The average OECD country spends about 0.73 per cent of their GDP on research, while Australia sits at about half that, at just 0.36 per cent.” #Auspol www.abc.net.au/news/science...
The CSIRO cuts are just the tip of the iceberg for Australia's science funding
Australia is known as a country of innovators, but with a combination of brain drain, continuous cuts, and a loss of critical science projects, is Australia losing its edge?

Fabulous afternoon chatting with booksellers and collectors at the #ChelseaBookFair today! Go tomorrow if you can! Noted the CWGO going for £12,500 and an interestingly inscribed first edition of Animal Farm. #Orwell www.chelseabookfair.com
