I was there, but missed Sonic Youth, who were the band i most wanted to see. The Bad Seeds set more than made up for it, though.

Yet another song for which i never realised i didn't know the right lyrics.

What Care Factor do you engage to reach it?

For me, those pens are so firmly associated with the 1970s that i'm constantly surprised they still exist.

This is a good thing to think about. I have a teenage student who loves slasher films and knife wielding maniacs, and i've been tossing up whether to lend her a copy of Johnny The Homicidal Maniac. (The fact that her parents may not be as cool with that as she says is so far the biggest no factor).

On the upside, they look like total wankers.

On the opposite side, i couldn't finish reading Sword of Shannara after the Mysterious Stranger told the Yearning Village Boy something like "Now, i'm sure you know the history of our world as well as anyone, but i'm going to tell it all again for the sake of the reader". Goodbye sense of wonder.

Very much this. A minor detail like a brief mention of the Clone Wars gave rise to all sorts of imaginings (which were nothing like what was later shown, much as i enjoyed those stories in themselves). Dune almost nailed that as well, but spoilt it with the appendix describing the Empire's history.

I was wondering if this was one of the gigs i might have circled longingly in the Age gig guide but not actually gone to, as was my habit at the time, still living in Ballarat. Then i noticed it was in Sydney. If it was Melbourne and a weekend, i might even have gone, alone and with nowhere to stay.

I counted 43 that i'm pretty sure i've seen.

I had very different tastes when i was 16, so i had to look up what albums came out then that i would like now. I was surprised to see albums like The Smiths and This Is What You Want, This Is What You Get listed. I always thought they were much older, rather than just 3-4 years when i found them.

I don't remember, though i know it would have included black jeans and combat boots. I do know that i didn't have a jacket, at i'd loaned mine to someone that afternoon and didn't get it back for weeks.

I've been wondering how it works in the US. He's neither an elected representative nor a public servant. Can he simply be given power to issue orders like that at the President's whim?

Sounds about right.

I once watched one of our cats wake up from sleeping on top of the tv, then vomit from a height of around 5 feet straight into my shoe, without a single drop missing. Talent indeed.

My boss sits in his office watching clips from Fox and Sky News (Aus) every day. The only difference i can hear is the accents.

God, i remember a lot of those. That brought tears to my eyes, even with the sound off.
