Honestly, I love you all dearly, and I haven't said enough how much your public acceptance and private words mean. I'm ride or die for all of you. Sorry you don't like the word. If there was another word that didn't stigmatise everyone that didn't fit within that category, I would use that. And I'd never use it to insult you. From my point of view, I'm fairly regularly implied or outright called a number of things due to being trans: deviant, pervert, fetishist, paedophile, mentally unwell, criminal, and others. Less so since I fucked off Twitter to be fair, but it's left me feeling a bit sensitive to the concept of "I'm normal, you're trans". Especially since that's something I struggled with when I started transitioning. Friend 2: Well you won't get called any of that shit by this group. We just want to play games and have a laugh. etc.

Am I over-reacting here?

A friend reacts negatively to the word 'cis' being used, by someone, to refer to themselves. Another friend jumps in and says they don't like it.

I don't know how else to articulate my issues with that attitude. I don't want to be the thought-police, but I feel ignored.

After a few other messages about how you define transness without the word 'cis'. Friend 1: Now I'm confused. Me: Yeah, if only we had a simple three-letter word that could be used to described not-trans people. ;) Friend 1: I still don't like it though Friend 2: I don't like the term either Friend 1: I was told Friend 2: I only ever hear it used in negative terms by people who aren't "cis" which makes it textbook definition of an insult Me: It's not an insult though. I could call you a turnip in a derogatory fashion, it doesn't make every use of the word 'turnip' an insult. I'm sure you guys aren't using it as such, when I hear people saying they don't like it they're generally insisting they be called 'normal', which I'm sure you can understand the issue with for a 'non-normal' person. I get that you don't like it, but being cis will never be an issue for you, unlike being trans. 99.5% of the population will never be under threat by 0.5% of it... TBH it's quite disheartening to hear you follow a similar line of thought to some very anti-trans activists. Sorry, not trying to start anything (and certainly wasn't with the shared image), but it's been weighing on my mind. I'd be lying if I said it didn't bother me. Friend 2: I'm not saying "I'm normal you're not" mate. I just never really liked the idea of a term externally assigned to me that I have to simply accept. It's not much more complicated than that to me.
