Day 4: The Unwritten

The cover to the comic book "The Unwritten" #1 by Yuko Shimizu. A hand gives a prescription pill bottle, then a blood-stained statue of Tommy Taylor (a wizard boy protagonist of the in-world Harry Potter cypher) to another. Words: "The Boy was ungrateful. Spoiled. He felt he was above the rules. His behavior grew wilder and wilder. Alcohol. Drugs. Insane binges. It came to a head. The Boy quarreled with his father, and the father was never seen again. As it turned out, the first of many atrocities, which led the boy down a winding, dimly-lit path to his own destruction. A tragedy in one act." The last panel reveals a man who will later be revealed as an antagonist named Pullman, wearing 19th century European styled clothing. He holds the bloody statue. Pullman speaks: "Actually it's a fantasy. The last in a series. And--trust me--its the only one anybody is going to remember" And there is a blue compass rose behind "To be continued..." Yuko Shimizu's cover to The Unwritten #24 without the trade dress. A white appears trapped or in pain while entangled by an endless stairway, which winds thru multiple open doors in his body. Along the black, yellow lined stairs, there are groups of swords giving off a glowing pink aura where they are stabbed into the steps. The background is blood red with yellow dripping down from the top, creating a firey/hellish look. The last panel from the first issue of The Unwritten: Apocalypse by Peter Gross featuring the lead characters. Day "3": House of X/Powers of X

Cover to House of X #1 by Pepe Larraz. Cyclops, Jean Grey, Professor X, Magneto, and Wolverine emerge from a Krakoan Gate (a plant-like teleportation tunnel) House of X #2 cover by Pepe Larraz. A series of triangular pictures featuring character busts creating a kaleidoscope-like image featuring 6 alternate versions of Moira MacTaggart at the center, Xavier and Magneto at top and bottom creating a diamond with the Moiras, and the extended cast filling out thr rest of the image. Mark Brooks painted image of the X-Men used to tease "House of X/Powers of X" and also a connecting cover variant for both titles first issue. Magneto stands behind Charles Xavier and Moira MacTaggart who sit on a bench at the center. The rest of the image is populated by X-characters in costumes representing eras in their history as well as a couple new characters that will be introduced in the series. It has a lot of "easter eggs" type teases that make more sense as the story progresses, and the image was revisited/updated a few times as the story unfolded A panel from Powers of X #6 by R.B. Silva (I think, the art is cocreated with Pepe Larraz). Magneto, dressed in a white variant of his costume, and Professor X, wearing a black bodysuit and large "Cerebro" helmet, stand side by side. Prof X says, "The truth is that until now we have always lost... but this time it's going to be different." Magneto says, "For we are different."

See? I just can't do these x number of days thing. Oh well, here's Day 2 of my favorite comic stories, runs, whatever. I'll just catch up to day 4 today. Maybe.

Day 2: "Material" vol. 1

Day 1: Animal Man (1988) #1-26
