After a pause, the man convinced Chongyun that the job he offered might help the exorcist get closer to the means of “surmounting his pure-yang constitution.” Zhongli referenced the exorcist’s unbalanced spiritual condition, which has been plaguing him for a very long time.

Chongyun was in deep thought of accepting the contract as he cooled down his tea with his Cryo Vision, which emphasizes that he’s living with a pure-yang constitution.

Some time ago, Zhongli sought Chongyun for a series of cases that required working with the Conqueror of Demons.

Chongyun remembers some time ago that Zhongli invited him for tea. The man sought him out for a series of supernatural cases.

At the time, Zhongli handed Chongyun some clippings of certain incidents along with old chronicles, hinting that similar incidents had happened in the past. Chongyun took his time to study them.

Zhongli then added that Chongyun was to work with the Conqueror of Demons, basically telling that the incidents are no simple ghost cases.

The exorcist laughed nervously because he recalled that the last time he and Adeptus Xiao were in contact at Wangshu Inn, they had a dispute.

At the time, Xiao was dismissive of thaumaturgy as a profession. This made Chongyun defensive over the job he takes pride on. The exorcist made the adeptus come down from the roof to talk face-to-face

Chongyun looks behind him as he hears footsteps approaching. They belong to Xingqiu’s, face crushed, asking “Why?”

The two supposedly best friends stare at each other, with the wind only doing the talking. Chongyun averted first, incapable of facing Xingqiu’s betrayed expression. Chongyun thinks all of this was his own doing.
