Attorney representing plaintiffs in civil/workers’ rights/labor trafficking cases. Pragmatic envelope pusher, proud papa, unrelenting dad joke failure, runner, photographer, weather geek.
(Unrelated to new jobs and unemployment data, I use BLS median wage data in my human trafficking cases as a measure of survivors’ economic damages. If those numbers become unreliable, it could have a significant impact on how judges and jurors view these claims.)

Also, if the Federal Marshalls refuse to (or the administration tells them not to) enforce the civil contempt order, the Court can appoint someone else to enforce the order. It's a critically important backstop in our imperfect legal system.

It would take cojones on the part of the court to do this, but it very well may be the last and best hope to preserve rule of law and ensure the executive doesn't simply disregard court orders. The alternative is unthinkable.

In other words, the court has the power to jail a federal official who, for example, refuses to facilitate the return of someone who is unlawfully deported. The official can remain jailed until he (in this case) complies with the court order. Because it is civil contempt, Trump can't pardon him.
