It's true. Here's me getting ready for lunch!

Album #77: LITTLE FEAT - Sailin' Shoes (1972). A fabulous messy gumbo of an album. Some country rock, some folky digressions, and whole lot of meaty blues. The songs meander and yet stay intently tight. Little Feat were a helluva band. Fave track this time: "A Apolitical Blues"

Album #76: WAXAHATCHEE - Saint Cloud (2020). Tremendous songwriting, elegant production, and vocal performances that carry a lifetime of hard-earned emotion. This might wind up as Katie Crutchfield's finest expression on record. Fave track this time: "War"

Album #75: THE RAINMAKERS - The Good News and the Bad News (1989). A set of potent rave-ups that show off Bob Walkenhorst's strength at crafting juicy pop hooks. The wry sense of humor is welcome, too. Maybe not as strong as its predecessors but still rock solid. Fave track this time: "Thirty Days"

Album #74: DAFT PUNK - Random Access Memories (2013). I love the sense that this album represents Daft Punk taking a tour through the intertwined history of dance music and electronica and spinning around with their own version of what they found. Fave track this time: "Give Life Back to Music"

Album #73: JAMES - Millionaires (1999). In the early-nineties Britpop battle for artistic supremacy between Blur and Oasis, I backed James. Fave track this time: "I Know What I'm Here For"

Album #72: TOMMY KEENE - Songs from the Film (1986). Man alive, Tommy Keene sure knew his way around a pop hook. The album boasts lovely, clean production that manages to avoid the off-putting extra sheen that subsumed so much pop-rock at the time. Fave track this time: "In Our Lives"
December 3, 2025 at 4:15 AM
Album #71: CAT POWER - Wanderer (2018). This album settles in a little more deeply for me every time I hear it. At times, Cat Power's craft here approaches that of Fiona Apple. I can't make a compliment much higher than that. Fave track this time: "You Get"

Album #70: VARIOUS ARTISTS - Last Night in Soho (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (2021). The entry in Edgar Wright's filmography that has the finest needle drops yields a well-collected soundtrack. Mad mods. Fave track this time: "(There's) Always Something There To Remind Me" by Sandie Shaw.
