A couple other FLASH GORDON character head studies, just for kicks:

Bok's face has solidified over the last year and a half, like all sequential characters do, but the broad strokes are still there from my original model sheet:

Today's strip has one of my favorite Bok panels in a while. Bok's a fun character to draw — part Hellboy, part Conan, less Goliath than you might think and a decent helping of Brock Samson. Season and serve.

Went straight from finishing BERSERK 1997 into wrapping up season four of SHORESY, which is basically speedballing the Anti-Life Equation and Popeye's spinach

Personally, I like to think of it as an intergalactic take on the happuri mengu open-faced Samurai mask. Canonically, as far as I can tell, it started off as a cowl worn by the undersea Coralians, but in our version multiple nations have their own variation.

FRANKENSTEIN was unbelievably good. Instantly my favorite adaptation of the story, 12/10, nothing but net. Gasps in the theater, audible crying, applause at the end. This thing's a monster.

Not intentional, but they DO serve similar purposes: to deliver very different yet equally incendiary messages to a captive audience. And the whole giant hologram thing is just very Wizard of Oz, isn't it — this is sci-fi fantasy, go big or go back to earth

Heard the name "SmackJeeves" for the first time in fifteen years and had to sit down for a minute

Lil something for the Bok heads in the audience

Silver Dagger is an all-time great Doctor Strange villain just waiting to break out again I swear to the Hoary Hosts

As much of a Lee/Ditko purist as I am, the Englehart/Brunner run is maaaybe the best Doctor Strange comics there ever were

330 pages of alternate history mystery/adventure, the first of three, all for thirty slim bucks. LAVENDER JACK had a long life as a Webtoon Original, but no one's seen it like this yet:

Ahhh yeah, this. This right here. This is what the internet is all about

Now while I do see where you're coming from, if I'M teaming Flash up with another Buster Crabbe character? It's gotta be:

Whoa, well spotted! Yes, Dambe was one of the things I was going for with the Lion Men's fighting arts, along with Muay Thai and a healthy helping of Sci-Fi Fantasy Fighting ™️

If I know anything, it's to never underestimate the charisma of a balding man with emotional wounds and dad vibes

Good question! One fine place to start is DC's THE BEST OF THE SPIRIT trade — it's not expensive, pretty easy to find, and has some of the most iconic stories from the first ten years of the strip.

Outside of the King characters, I've got four:

SPACE GHOST
THE FANTASTIC FOUR
CONAN THE BARBARIAN

And, it should almost go without saying, DAN DARE

Bah! Coming from a man with your enviably confident line, I reject the premise of the question

As for another strip I've love to take over? Alex Raymond's RIP KIRBY, easy.
October 19, 2025 at 7:41 PM
My favorite Raymond storyline has to be the 1939-40 Frigia mega arc; Great characters, art never looked better, left such an impression that I made Fria one of the tentpole characters of my whole run.

Favorite classic strip? Will Eisner's THE SPIRIT — and if that doesn't count, PRINCE VALIANT.

-Edda, in fact the whole factory arc from this summer, is actually made of spare parts from a storyline I originally pitched for the first year lineup

-I don't know if we'll be seeing any of the Lowland Station Takes gang again, but I love those guys

-Bok definitely sounds like Holt McCallany
October 19, 2025 at 7:03 PM
The big idea with Bok was to take one of the nameless mooks Flash fights and elevate him to the main cast. I wanted him to give us a fresh perspective on the world of Mongo, plus giving Flash a "regular" guy to talk to. A proto-version appears in my one-off FLASH FORWARD strip from a few years back:

My go-to is THE SPIDER VS THE EMPIRE STATE, which collects the three novels that basically form the Spider's GOD LOVES, MAN KILLS
