The outside of the pot has a thin wash of neph sye and gerstley borate to give that sheen. It enrichens the clay colour which is good. It's the first test of this method

The ash can still fall off if thickly applied. One has to take care handling it and putting it in the kiln. If you rub a bit off, you can always add a bit more. I used a sieve to sift the ash on, so there are no lumpy bits

Thanks!
You need the pot to be slightly damp. Some people put the ash on just after glazing when the glaze is not shiny but still retains some moisture. I sprayed it with a water bottle a bit as the glaze was dry.

Also it is a clay I made myself, based on a formula for Shigaraki clay from Japan.

Yes, I fear it is going the way of FB with more AI-written posts about things you didn't ask for

Sorry, I accidentally uploaded a wonky pic or two

Thank you!

Yes it was a close call. I had this one too 😂 Thank you!

Thank you! Yes I took some time to round out the whole form with a rib from the inside so it didn't look like two bowls stuck together. It wasn't so easy as the clay was quite firm by then. I have yet to trim it. I'll have to make a big chuck for that

I'm the worst at that normally 😅 I rarely use test tiles and just ruin a lot of pots

Thanks. I only have one clear for high fire. I'm thinking an amber might be nice as it's going on brown and white clays but I don't know how much it'll conceal. I may try it on one pot and be patient with the others

Cheers!

Yeah clear outside would be best ideally but it makes brown clay look kinda grey brown. I may go for an amber. I may try several options and see what works

Thanks! I have to figure out how best to glaze them now
